To be honest, there's no need to bring the NGP into this thread at all. The 3DS' rivals are Apple and Google, not Sony. Whilst the 3DS and NGP are aimed at different consumer bases, iPhones, iPads and Android phones/tablets are becoming more ubiquitous with each passing day. Not to mention that the technology is improving with each handset generation.
Well said (bubble+).
Maybe Nintendo's sticking to a 20 year old business model that's becoming less and less relevant?
EDIT: For handhelds, that is. Their Wii marketing and niche exploitation was nothing short of genius.
Maybe I'm missing something, but hasn't this been out for months? Pretty sure I own it.
Looks like the article itself says "7th gen," think it's just been shortened for N4G.
Within a fortnight for Portal 2, don't know about MK9.
Did Infiniminer sue? Or Dwarf Fortress? Notch understands that homage and imitation is a key part of the games industry - and that FortressCraft is no threat to Minecraft. If anything, it's basically an advert and proof that Minecraft will work on consoles if Mojang decided to go in that direction.
It's certainly not rubbish. FortressCraft is superior to the majority of XBLIG titles in terms of graphics, gameplay and precedent, though you're right to be surprised! I think the massive cynical controversy surrounding it is causing as many (if not more) impulse sales as its quality.
Yeah, something like that. Ratings can be manipulated (thanks, Lacrosse fans), but Best Seller lists are a different thing entirely.
I don't think comparing console and mobile gaming is useful in any way. They're parallel economies, surely? As a few people have said above, mobile games are constantly improving and provide hours of fun while commuting or plain watching the telly, but many of the same people who buy Angry Birds etc are the same people who get home, put their phone to one side and boot up their PC/PS3/Xbox 360.
Handhelds, though, I don't know. As phone hardware improves, tradition...
Absolutely - or at least tried the trial version. It's not difficult to see whether or not an account has downloaded the trial or game in question.
A weighting system could put more voting power in the hands of those who own the full version.
There is no Microsoft QA team for indie games.XBLIG is regulated by the community itself, which is a double-edged sword. It's one of the most inclusive platforms to develop for... but then it's much more difficult to break your game out of the pack.
It's difficult for one-man operations to successfully advertise games in an effective way, especially if you're struggling to make ends meet. Microsoft can't market individual games directly, you're right, but they should be doing much more to raise awareness of the service in general. You never see them advertising it as a unique selling point of the Xbox 360- which is exactly what it is/should be.
For sure, Apple and Android are looking increasingly attractive for small indie outfits - simply because they honestly communicate with studios throughout the development process rather than stonewall them at every turn. I'd also be surprised if Sony doesn't soon make a bigger play to attract discontented developers towards PSP Minis.
Valve haven't added trophies BECAUSE they love us.
Playing a game simply because it's good rather than for trophies/GS is infinitely more rewarding, and HL2 is one of the best games ever. Quit your whining.
They certainly do - in fact, they always do. The backwards compatibility also allows companies to choose whether or not to support 3D, which is a genius marketing move that opens up the platform to pretty much anyone.
Getting back to the point of the article rather than discusing Homefront: the way us gamers interpret review scores is RIDICULOUS. Folks, understand that 5/10 DOESN'T mean that a game is bad. And a 6/10 means that a game is probably worth buying by its target audience. Many journalists are also at fault for skewing their scales upwards and not using the bottom end anywhere near enough. Fearing trolly wrath, probably.
If Homefront were getting 3 or 4 out of 10, I'd wri...
If there was ever a time for the horrible "lame" tag, it's for stuff like this. Guys, this post is simply a question. There's no real news or even an opinion there!
Good shout actually, Neverwinter Nights & KOTOR were excellent. Slightly smaller scale though IMO (apart from The Witcher).
It's a neat idea that worked for Scott Pilgrim... but Saber really dropped the ball. In fact, they're desperate to not be associated with the project in any way!
A noble sentiment. I think.
